On the 2nd, the formation of a new overseas AKB48 sister group was announced. Based in Chiang Mai, "CGM48" is the second sister group in Thailand after BNK48, which is based in Bangkok. BNK48 made the surprise announcement at their fan event "BNK48 Thank You & The Beginner Chiang Mai" in Chiang Mai.
The group's name is derived from the city "Chiang Mai". The logo colour comes from the image of Chiang Mai's lush forests. They will be managed by BNK48's management company "BNK48 Office".
BNK48 captain Cherprang Areekul spoke with enthusiasm, "I'm really happy that we can have another sister group in Thailand. I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of group CGM48 will be!"
