Is a German commercial deriding Japanese People? A CM showing an Asian woman inhaling a man's used briefs invokes a flood of criticism.

In the commercial, the briefs of a Caucasian male gardener is sold in a vending machine. An Asian woman buys his briefs, and inhales it with euphoria.

At the end of the commercial, the words, "The Scent of Spring" is displayed.

Hornback, a German home improvement retailer, posted this commercial on Twitter on May 3rd with the comment, "How is the scent of spring?"

A creative director of Heimat, the company that created this commercial, was questioned by Horizon, a German advertisement and marketing news site, regarding this ad. The creative director explained, "It's based on Japan's vending machine culture. The gender of the characters have merely been reversed. The urban legend of "men buying young women's old underwear" has been changed to "women buying men's old underwear."

The other party involved, Hornback replied, "We have not said that this is some country in Asia. It is a fictional city."

In response to opinion that the CM is racist, Hornback countered, "Anyone can use it," and uploaded a GIF of a white woman opening and inhaling the package in the same way.

After that, Hornbach posted a GIF of a white man inhaling the package the same way, with the tweet, "We support diversity and welcome mutual respect."

They also explained that the ad is about "the yearning for spring, which unfortunately can only come from a vending machine when you live in a gray concrete city."

I don't get the point of this CM

9. [+2673 / -13]
I think I heard that this CM triggered a protest by a Korean women's organisation
Was that meant to be a Japanese person?

41. [+718 / -19]

I thought she looked like a North Korean too.
Well, it might be targeting Asians in general rather than a specific place.
Caucasians have intense body odor so I certainly wouldn't be able to do that.

10. [*The post was deleted from Girls Channel. Before it was deleted, it had a lot of down-votes.]
I want to smell a handsome white guy's underwear

I watched the CM. It was a stinky pair of undies, and didn't make any sense.

16. [+1277 / -8]
The Koreans were angry too, right?

17. [+1293 / -5]
People normally wouldn't do this sort of thing

19. [+1903 / -4]
The urban legend of "men buying young women's old underwear" has been changed to "women buying men's old underwear."
I wonder what they were trying to express with this ad

22. [+646 / -1]
Weird CM

23. [+255 / -3]
What kind of impression do they have of us...

24. [+1255 / -5]
Race aside, this is simply gross
It's not a CM that I'd want to see when I'm eating

25. [+1469 / -7]
The fact that the woman is not a beauty is definite proof
They're purposely stirring up trouble

26. [+300 / -173]
「hentai」「bukkake」
Is the result of Cool Japan

27. [+739 / -2]

28. [+697 / -2]
Don't get it, and it's unpleasant

29. [+1456 / -9]
An Asian woman buys his briefs, and inhales it with euphoria.
There's no Asian person who'd do that w

30. [+694 / -3]
Watching it doesn't make you feel good
Did they not think anything when they made it?

31. [+516 / -1]
Gross

32. [+625 / -3]
There are other scents of spring they could have used.

31. [+971 / -4]
They should have just sensibly made a CM.
that wafts with the actual scent of spring.
Idiots
Exist everywhere.

34. [+884 / -2]
"We support diversity"
"yearning for spring"
Aren't their explanations getting more and more ridiculous?

35. [+798 / -52]
Why has the topic title restricted it to Japanese?
It says fictional city.

45. [+831 / -0]
>> 35
>The Japanese words "Scent of Spring" is written on the underwear packages on the conveyor belt

Apparently.

36. [+447 / -4]
Before you even go on about discrimination
The act of sniffing underwear is already...

37. [+861 / -4]
If I'm not mistaken, there were some Japanese words somewhere, so people were saying, 'She's a Japanese woman, isn't she?'

38. [+608 / -13]
So even foreign business make excuses
Their excuses sound like the ones Japanese companies make.

43. [+239 / -1]
What on earth?!

44. [+339 / -2]
Even their rebuttals are condescending lol

46. [+590 / -4]
Foreign people's underclothes seem very very stinky.

47. [+912 / -7]
There's no way I'd want to smell the dirty underwear of old men like these.

I think that it's true that Japanese men are perverts. But I want to scream, "Japanese women are different!"
