UVERworld Under Fire for Unfair Treatment Towards Female Fans

Context: UVERworld will be Holding the Biggest "Male Festival" in History in Tokyo Dome!

Article: Gekirock

On April 11th, during an event held at Zojo-ji Buddhist temple, using projection mapping technology, UVERworld announced in front of 400 male fans who were selected to attend by lottery, that they will be holding a male only concert ("Male Festival") at Tokyo Dome on December 20, 2019.

*Japan's Biggest: 6 x 45,000

The UVERworld members also appeared on stage! UVERworld member TAKUYA∞ (Vocals) said enthusiastically, "It is because we, UVERworld, were supported by our many female fans that our male festival, which only had 230 people when it was first held, has grown to the point that it can now be held at Tokyo Dome.
On December 12, 2012, we are looking forward to fulfill our promise between men at last. We want to prove that the music that we have believed in is not wrong."

*UVERworld Male Festival: Tokyo Dome

UVERworld have been holding male festivals since 2011. At first they performed in a live house in front of around 200 people. Although there were also times they weren't able to sell out 2000 seats, due to the word of mouth and the like, the scope of their male-only concerts gradually grew bigger. In 2017, they held the biggest male festival in Japan's history at the Saitama Super Arena, with the record of 23,000 concert goers. This time, for their 11th male festival, they will challenge a 45,000 people male concert!

UVERworld are Under Fire after the Discovery of their Unfair Treatment Towards Female Fan Club Members – Screening Out Female Applicants from the Lottery Without Revealing it was Male Only Beforehand

Background: A notice was sent to all UVERworld fan club members which said that everyone was eligible to enter the lottery for the chance to attend a fan event (event in above article where 400 male fans attended). UVERworld is under fire not for the upcoming male festival but for how they arranged the fan event (which was held in order to announce the festival).

What was the issue?

-It's a fan event to announce the male festival so they want to restrict it to males

-But if they say that it's males only at the application stage, it'll be exposed that it's a male festival announcement

Then, let's take entries from all members and only reject the females

I think that this is 100% the management's fault but for some reason the female fans who were the victims of this unfair lottery are being bashed...

UVERworldの「男祭り」 事前に男性限定と発表せず抽選で女のFC会員を除外する不正発覚で大炎上

Rough translation of Tweet:
All fan members were emailed, and people entered [the lottery to attend the event], but after the results came out, they found out that "All females were rejected". It's natural that people would get mad... They were looking forward to seeing whether or not they would hit, without knowing that they were out of the running from the very beginning. I can guess all too well how those female fans are feeling...

Netizens response:

-After sending out a notice that would make people want to enter, saying that they will give everyone an equal chance and won't screen out applicants, without giving any advance notice they... what the...? They're worse than a certain agency that manipulates numbers 😣 and the way they notified the fans was brutal... It's amazing that their fans have followed them till now... Well done... 😖😖😖

-Too cruel... I'm livid

-UVER has always held male festivals but the way the announced it this time was wrong.

-UVER is under major fire but they did a horrible thing so it can't be helped.

Both the management and members are pieces of sɦıʈ

They should have properly announced that it was male only beforehand.

UVERworld has a male festival?

Why did they think it was a problem if people found out they were holding a male festival?
Just announce it normally.

People are all saying that they should've said it beforehand
But for me, I'm just thinking "Give me back the time and feelings I wasted waiting in excitement."

Male chauvinism

Wait, these guys are still popular?
That's a surprise.

This isn't a medical school entrance exam so...
*Last year, it was revealed that several Japanese medical schools discriminated against female applicants and manipulated test scores to exclude female students.

Couldn't they have just held a normal male only fan event, and then made an announcement there that they'll be holding a male only concert? w

18. [+1103 / -10]
There would have also been people who joined their fanclub just to apply, right? That's fraud

19. [+510 / -4]
The fans who were looking forward to it must have been shocked

24. [+1017 / -8]
The management are horrible for hiding that females won't be selected, and the males also suck for taking the opportunity to bash them.

26. [+19 / -311]
People are complaining because it's a male only event but
they don't make a fuss when it's a female only event
This is clearly biased

Did you read the article properly?

30. [+1298 / -12]
It's because it would've been lame if couldn't fill up Tokyo Dome so if they didn't get enough applicants, they would have just held a normal male and female event -- I saw this being speculated on twitter lol

33. [+822 / -2]
There are too many idiots who think that people are making a fuss because it's a male only event
The way they held the lottery is the problem, that's why people are making a fuss

34. [+613 / -13]
Rock bands are this petty?
Lame wwwwwww

36. [+501 / -15]
It's precisely because you guys are declining that you should value your fans.

37. [+422 / -4]
They can do a male festival all they want but why was there any need to hide it?

39. [+642 / -7]
They safely managed to gather enough males so they have no need for females anymore.

Feel sorry for the female fans who were really looking forward to it.

They're going to fill up Tokyo Dome with only male fans?!
Incredible

Fukuyama Masaharu has held male only concerts over the years too but apparently he couldn't fill up the seats the first time he did it.
Maybe they decided to use this petty method after they saw what happened with Fukuyama.
Come to think of it, Sazan* said it in their lyrics too
"The pretences in everything we believe in are peeling off"

I've been a fan of UVERworld for almost 10 years, and I'm still in their fan club.
They've held male festivals before, and have occasionally held female festivals but the number of male festivals they've held is overwhelmingly greater.
But when they debuted, they were popular with females due to their looks. Afterwards, they were recognised for their music, and their male fans increased, so the scope of their male festival grew bigger and bigger by the year. That became the members' joy and motivation, I think.
Nowadays, they've limited their TV appearances and are doing a lot of concerts so people who aren't fans will probably see them as a band that they haven't seen for a while. Yet to think that they've been drawn into the public eye because of something like this, I'm truly disappointed with their management...
The members are also not really acknowledging it, so as a fan, that makes me really sad.
